background
Her beginning was a bit fucky. Bellona's (born Johanna) mother was a witch who despite being married to a perfectly nice, if mundane, man, was having an affair with a vampire. She planned to pretend it was her husband's baby, but her vampire lover wasn't too keen on that so he killed her husband off himself. Unfortunately, this left her without a man to support her, but again, her lover would step up to the plate. Posing as a noble he moved in, pretended to fall in love with the witch, married her, and 'adopted' her child. Some in the village questioned why a noble would settle for a pregnant widow, but no one made a big deal of it and eventually, they settled down.
She was born a dhampir and spent the first twenty-four years of her life this way. For the most part, she was a witch, but she had some of the added perks of vampirism without having to worry about the negative.
Thanks to her family's status she was blessed in ways that other girls weren't. She received the sort of education that was reserved for boys, she loved to read and learn and was encouraged to do so by her parents. She was charming and soft on the outside, but in private she was as sharp as the weapons that she was fascinated with. Though she was a girl her father insisted that she not only learn magic but also learn to wield a weapon.
She knew that eventually it would be time for her vampirism to be triggered but that didn't stop her from putting it off for as long as she could. She didn't know if it would have an effect on her magic and wanted to enjoy the time she had left.
Unfortunately it wasn't up to her or her father. She was caught up in a territory dispute between her father and another vampire clan, and not knowing who the very elegant couple were, allowed herself to be swept away and right into the devil's clutches. The couple were charming enough that she let her guard down, and seizing the opportunity the woman bit her, triggering her vampire side.
Unbeknownst to them and fortunately for Bellona, her magic didn't go away. This helped her kill her would-be sires when she finished turning.
That wasn't the right call to make though, as once she returned home her father berated her for killing the couple. Who knew that killing your sire was a bad thing? Not Bellona, that's for sure.
To avoid an oncoming war, her father decided to send her away to England with a warning not to come back.
This displeased her, but she decided to try to look at it as a new start. Luckily her strain of vampirism seemed to be influenced greatly by her witch side. She was a full-fledged vampire but didn't have the same worries as other vampires. Her witch side helped to make it so that she could walk in the sun, as well as on holy ground, though it couldn't do anything about the need for blood.
She spent the next few centuries traveling Europe, learning new things and rubbing elbows with the high society of the times, moving on when things got too comfortable. There was a period where she let her rage get the best of her and she spent her time killing and eating without discretion. That was the closest and only time she ever got to getting caught.
Eventually she made her way across the Atlantic. She spent some time in Salem before she was accused of witchcraft and had to find a way out of that situation. After getting the hell out of New England she made her way to the South, more specifically New Orleans.
She thrived in New Orleans, enjoying the atmosphere and the climate. In the 1800s she picked up shooting and became an expert marksman, rivaling Annie Oakley. She performed in a few shows, but for the sake of her anonymity never allowed herself to gain a reputation or big following.
Recently her father has tried to get back in touch with her but she's not having it. She has kept this grudge going since she was turned (576 years) and has no plans to stop. But he's persistent and she was getting a bit bored in New Orleans, so when the Adventure Society called she gladly took them up on their job offer.
